Our Team Includes Four People Who Can See You on Short Notice

What are we talking about?

Shorter wait times, high quality dermatology care, a compassionate provider, and accurate diagnosis and treatment are some of the reasons our patients often choose to see a physician assistant (PA) or nurse practitioner (NP). When you have a problem, you want to get it treated quickly. You also want someone who knows your skin and how to get you better. Dr. Moore recognizes this and found a way to help you.

He has hand-picked four individuals as advanced practice providers for his office. Each has gone through highly intensive educational training at DermacenterMD, above and beyond becoming certified PAs and NPs. A typical week would include one hour of educational lecture from Dr. Moore, educational and reading time and proficiency examinations. In addition, they have daily access to Dr. Moore to ask any questions. The training program here is designed to get you rapid access to high quality dermatology care. We also respect those who want to see only Dr. Moore, and if this is you, simply let our scheduling staff know. It does often take a few weeks longer to get in to see Dr. Moore.

What is a Physician Assistant?

"A Physician Assistant (PA) works in concert with physicians, complementing the physician’s ability to deliver a comprehensive range of medical services. PAs often obtain a bachelor’s degree and must be accepted into a highly competitive 26 month PA training program where they earn a master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies upon completion. In total, PAs have finished a total of six years of schooling. After completing their training, PA’s work jointly with their supervising physician to hone their skills in their specific field. PAs’ rigorous education, versatility and commitment to individualized treatment help physicians function more efficiently and enhance continuity of health care."

Meet our PA:

Mariah Lefforge, PA-C

Mariah is a board-certified Physician Assistant through the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) specializing in dermatology. Mariah has been a part of the DermacenterMD team since 2007. She grew up in Bluffton, Indiana where she graduated valedictorian of her high school class. She was awarded a full-tuition Presidential Scholarship to the University of Indianapolis where she majored in chemistry. While at the University of Indianapolis, she volunteered at St. Francis Hospital and worked as a chemistry tutor and lab assistant, as well as a home health care CNA. She graduated Summa Cum Laude and was in the top 10% of her class. She then expanded her education by earning a Master’s of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of St. Francis, where she served as Vice President of her class. Mariah believes that the most rewarding aspect of practicing dermatology is the opportunity to give a patient a name and a treatment for a condition they have suffered with but did not think they could improve. She likes seeing patients who have severe acne start to hold their head up and carry themselves with greater confidence. Outside of patient care, Mariah enjoys playing tennis, stand up paddle board, and reading. Mariah has used her high intellect and humor to build a strong reputation with her patients. DermacenterMD is honored to have her as a team member for over 10 years.

Meet our PA:

During his Physician Assistant studies, Eric was awarded a competitive Health Professions Scholarship through the US Air Force. Upon graduation, he practiced family medicine at Shaw Air Force Base in South Carolina for 3 years. He decided to enter the dermatology field in part because he appreciates the problem is visible as are the results. Eric believes helping patients repair, restore or optimize their skin and overall health is an important and gratifying endeavor. Eric completed the DermWise online training program and has extensively trained with Dr. Moore. Outside the clinic, Eric and his wife enjoy spending time with their 2 sons and daughter. He looks forward to helping you find solutions to your skin concerns!

What is a Nurse Practitioner?

"Nurse Practitioners are medical clinicians that hold a master's degree or doctoral degree, and have advanced clinical training beyond their initial professional registered nurse preparation. Didactic and clinical courses prepare nurses with specialized knowledge and clinical competency to practice in primary care, acute care and long-term health care settings. NPs are quickly becoming the health partner of choice for millions of Americans. As clinicians that blend clinical expertise in diagnosing and treating health conditions with an added emphasis on disease prevention and health management, NPs bring a comprehensive perspective to health care. Americans make over 916 million visits to NPs every year."
